poem
Sunday morning, very bright
I read your book by colored light
That came in through the pretty window picture.
I visited some houses
Where they said that you were living
And they talked a lot about you
And they spoke about your giving.
They passed a basket with some envelopes.
I just had time to write a note,
And all it said was "I believe in you."
Passing conversations where they mentioned your existence
And the fact that you had been replaced by your assistants.
The discussion was theology
And when they smiled and turned to me,
All that I could say was, "I believe in you."
I visited your house again on Christmas or Thanksgiving
And a balded man said you were dead
But the house would go on living.
He recited poetry
And as he saw me stand to leave
He shook his head and said
I'd never find you.
My mother used to dress me up
And while my dad was sleeping
We would walk down to your house
Without speaking.
Well, peoples, what do you think? I think it's beautiful. It's written by a guy in a 60s band. It's called "Hymn".
However, sadly, I think that the "balded" guy is right: this person is never going to find God, or at least not find God in the places where he's looking. The author makes a valid point that God is often missing in churches, but he thinks that he can just make up his own way to God. That is not the case. Although, the song starts with the person reading the Bible, so perhaps eventually he will come to the right conclusions.
I just think that it's so sad when people are looking for God, and they turn to the modern church and don't find Him. Instead they find elaborate worship services, fancy feel-good sermons, people with hangovers from Saturday night, and other such completely un-God-focused things. Of course, there are still good churches but the ones that are human-centered are rapidly gaining ground. And it is up to us to stop it!
Please let me know what you think about this poem and topic!

Yeah, Margaret, it is sad.
Bekah, as I already tried to explain to you, this poem does NOT refer to any guy! It's about God! How could it possibly be more obvious without using the word "Jesus" or "church"?
